Matthew Akiba was born and raised in North Miami Beach, Florida. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, he worked as an antique, fine art, and jewelry auctioneer in Dania Beach, Florida. In 2019, he began studying law at the Florida International University College of Law where he is now entering his third year of school. He is a senior editorial staff member of the FIU Law World Arbitration and Mediation Review and is currently the president of the International Law Students Association. He is also on the international commercial arbitration team and on the board of the Student Bar Association. Prior to joining Barakat Law, he interned with the Honorable Beth Bloom in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
